the duty to win
There will be no newsletter this week on account of the Minnesota general strike. If you didn’t know that was happening, now you do. It’s time for heroes around here, and the people of St. Paul and Minneapolis are rising again and again to meet the opportunity. Whether that’s watching the streets or keeping our community hubs afloat or doing unappreciated paperwork that saves lives or just saying “fuck” for the first ever time in public, Minnesota patriots are putting their lives on the line everyday. The least I can do is not write a review of the new Jim Jarmusch movie.
If there’s anything that’s become obvious in the past three weeks, it’s that there’s no right or wrong way to respond to an assault on your sovereignty - there’s only the yes/no of whether or not you’ll act in love of your neighbors when you find the opportunity to do it. We appreciate the love from out-of-staters, but we’ve got this under control. We’re organized so out the ears that they’re complaining about it. We’re invoking our Tenth Amendment rights. We’re literally running Nazis out of town. I don’t know how well the Battletrain operates in -10°, but I’m hoping it’ll be out tomorrow. If you aren’t from here and you don’t know what that is then pay attention and maybe you’ll find out.
I’ll be back next week with thoughts on Bone Temple and The Testament of Ann Lee. I haven’t seen either but I’m sure there’ll be plenty to write about both of them. I promise going forward that this newsletter will continue to focus on movies and won’t become a #resistence blog. But for today I want to say that I’ve never been more proud of my state. We’re alive and we’ve got each other. Year of L’Étoile du Nord.
