enjoyed the train-related nostalgia discourse. also thinking abt that scene in Tess of the d'Urbervilles where she stands at the edge of the station and the tendril of steam from the train almost touches her and then recedes. modernity???????

hmm I don't know Tess or what trains are about in literature. The one I'm most familiar with runs someone over but that seems like something different.

lol that one is special. but yeah I think in literature as on screen they are inevitably "symbols of impending modernity." or at least thomas hardy seems to think so
